13 Ways To Relieve Swelling During Pregnancy

Swollen ?hands and feet are very common during pregnancy. The medical term for this swelling is ‘edema’. Edema is nothing but excessive retention of water in the tissues.

During pregnancy the body tends to retain more water which gives rise to bloating or swelling of body parts. Sometimes certain changes in the composition of blood due to hormonal changes in the body during pregnancy also result in movement of fluids into the tissues.

Another reason for edema is the pressure exerted on the pelvis veins and the vena cava (the largest vein in the body that is located on the right side of the body and transports blood from the lower limbs to the heart and pressure on vena cava is also responsible for sciatica in some pregnant women) by the expanding uterus.

When pressure is applied on the veins they get compressed and take longer time to carry the blood back from the veins. As a result the blood gets accumulated in the veins and in turn pushes the other fluids in the veins into the surrounding tissues causing swelling.

Pregnant women suffering from edema will find their undergarments, ring fingers and even shoes becoming snug and tight due to swelling in the tissues.?The onset of edema is usually seen towards the end of the second trimester and by the third trimester it has fully set in. pregnant women who live in warm climate is more commonly affected with swollen hands and feet.

Fortunately, the swelling goes away within a week of your delivery. Once the body has delivered the baby it will rapidly start getting rid of the accumulated fluid. Therefore, women who suffer from edema during pregnancy often find themselves urinating and sweating in excess for a few days after giving birth.

Swollen hands and feet during pregnancy can be a very uncomfortable situation to be in. besides; edema makes the pregnant woman feel even worse about the physical changes taking place with her body. It is not always possible to avoid edema, however, there are successful ways in which edema can be prevented.

Keep your feet raised to the level of your heart when lying down. If working on a desk then simply rest your feet on a small stool or a stack of piles to prevent fluid accumulation. Don’t cross your legs or your ankles while sitting or standing because this will put pressure on the veins.

Don’t keep standing at one place for long. Take short walks after every hour to keep the fluid circulation going in your body. When going to sleep lie on your left side because the vena cava is located on the right side of the body. Resting on your right side will put added pressure on the vena cava resulting in swelling of hands and feet. Sleeping on your back or on your tummy is not recommended during pregnancy.

Do regular leg exercises especially if you spend most of your day seating at one place. Relieve the pressure from your veins by stretching the legs. First stretch your leg by pushing it away from your body and gently rotate the feet to give it some exercise. Now stretch your calf muscles. Move your ankles in clockwise and anti-clockwise direction to exercise them.

Do not give up on your regular walks in the morning or evening unless you have been put on bed rest. An increasing tummy often makes it impossible to walk. However, continue with the walking exercise by simply going for walks of shorter duration.

Do not wear heels at all. Heels are bad news for pregnant women not only because they hurt the back but also because they tend to aggravate the condition of edema. So avoid heels altogether. Instead wear comfortable shoes that can stretch easily to accommodate any swelling on the feet.

Avoid wearing socks or stockings that have tight bands. The tightness of the bands will cause the blood to pool in the particular area which will push the fluid into the tissues resulting in swelling. Get yourself a pair of waist-high maternity stockings for support. Wear them first thing in the morning so that the blood does not accumulate around your ankles and feet.

Ironically, the best way of preventing water retention is by drinking plenty of water. Water retention is often caused when the body feels it isn’t getting enough water. To avoid dehydration the body tends to stock up on the fluids. Water retention by the body causes swelling. So drink at least 12 glasses of water to keep up the proper circulation of fluids in the body.

Exercise regularly. Certain yoga postures are excellent for reducing water retention and swelling in the body. However, for pregnant women there is specific type of yoga called pre-natal yoga which effectively prevents and treats edema. If you cannot join pre-natal yoga classes then take up walking, swimming or cycling to give your body some exercise. Even water-aerobics is good for reducing the swelling caused by edema.

Eat a well-balanced diet and avoid junk foods and processed foods. Foods that contain high quantities or salt or oil are known to increase the condition of edema. Even food prepared using white flour contributes to causing swelling during pregnancy.

Keep your blood pressure in control by eating right. High blood pressure often pushes excess water into the body tissues. If you have high blood pressure then your doctor might have to treat you for prevention of preeclampsia.

The condition of edema does not affect the health of your baby in any way. Edema is not a serious medical condition unless you notice swelling on your face or you have puffy eyes; in which case it is advisable to see your doctor immediately. If you experience sudden or excessive swelling in your hands and feet then you could be possibly suffering from serious condition called preeclampsia. Any pain or swelling in one leg should also be reported immediately to your health care provider.

Removing Stretch Marks From Pregnancy

After you have given birth, you can face the problem of how to remove the stretch marks from pregnancy. While it is difficult to remove the stretch marks from pregnancy entirely, there are many effective treatments, which can greatly diminish their appearance.

You should apply cocoa butter during your pregnancy. Cocoa butter keeps your skin moist. This, in turn, allows your skin to remain elastic. As a result, the stretch marks that are formed will not be too severe. All you have to do is massage the cocoa butter over your stretch marks from pregnancy.

You can apply vitamin oil on your stomach after your baby has been born. Vitamin E is known to help in the reduction of scars. The stretch marks are scars that are caused when your skin rapidly expands during pregnancy. Vitamin E is particularly effective if you apply it after you had a warm shower. It works very well when your body is damp.

An effective way by which you can remove the stretch marks from pregnancy is by using Aloe Vera gel. Aloe Vera contains natural healing properties. When you use Aloe Vera gel, you will be able to heal your skin very well. You should use Aloe Vera gel, which is free from dyes and fragrances. If the Aloe Vera gel contains some added components, then it could have a corrosive effect on your skin.

You must avoid exposure to the sun if you want to get rid off your stretch marks from pregnancy. Like most scars, your stretch marks from pregnancy will become a lot more noticeable if they are exposed to the sun’s rays during the process of healing. You should try not exposing your stomach to sunlight or other radiations for at least six months to about one year after you have given birth to your child. If you wish to expose your stomach to sun then make sure that, you apply a heavy layer of sunscreen. Also, make sure that you keep reapplying the sunscreen from time to time.

If you follow a balanced and healthy diet, then you will be able to successfully remove your stretch marks from pregnancy. You should ensure that you consume food items which are rich in vitamins E, A and C as well as zinc. Foods that are rich in such items can help your skin to maintain its natural elasticity as well as its firmness. In addition to following a healthy diet, you should keep your body as well as your skin hydrated at all times by drinking plenty of water.

An easy way by which you can remove your stretch marks from pregnancy is exercising regularly. When you exercise regularly, it will help to tone your muscles and this could reduce the stretch marks from pregnancy. Exercising could also help you with weight management and weight loss. You should maintain a healthy weight for preventing and removing stretch marks from pregnancy. This is because rapid gain in weight is one of the crucial causes for the formation of stretch marks from pregnancy.

When you exfoliate your skin, you will be able to remove your stretch marks from pregnancy. You can use a loofah for softly scrubbing your skin while taking a bath. This will promote circulation. When you scrub over your existing stretch marks from pregnancy, the scrubbing will also decrease dead skin, which exists over these marks. As a result, the appearance of the stretch marks from pregnancy will be much minimized.

You can try eliminating the stretch marks from pregnancy by using over the counter creams. A very good over the counter cream, which you can use for the removal of your stretch marks from pregnancy is Strivectin SD. However, as the stretch marks usually occur in the dermis of your skin, the over the counter products are not effective in removing these stretch marks. You should also educate yourself before you use over the counter creams for reducing your stretch marks. The results of these products have not been thoroughly proven and they are very expensive as well.

You could opt for prescription creams like Retin-A for removing your stretch marks from pregnancy. This is a very effective cream as far as stretch marks are concerned. It is especially effective when the stretch marks from pregnancy are between one and two years old. You should not use the Retin-A cream, when you are still pregnant or when you are breastfeeding. It is unlikely that your medical insurance will cover the cost of Retin-A cream as it is used primarily for cosmetic purposes.

If over the counter drugs or prescription creams do not help you to remove your stretch marks from pregnancy you could opt for surgical methods. Laser surgeries are known to improve stretch marks that are white in color. The cosmetic laser treatments are very expensive and are not generally covered by the health insurance companies. Some of the well-known options are laser therapy using pulsed dyes and fractional photothermolysis.

The first treatment uses a non-ablative light for rejuvenating the dermis and encouraging collagen and elastin growth. The second method uses light wavelengths for encouraging the growth of collagen as well as elastin. Both these methods work very well on the new and dark stretch marks from pregnancy. However, these therapies can also be conducted on older stretch marks from pregnancy.

You can choose between various ways to remove your stretch marks from pregnancy. If you follow these methods for removing your stretch marks, then your stretch marks from pregnancy are going to disappear in absolutely no time at all. Consequently, the area around your stomach will begin to look much better and you will not have to face continuous embarrassment because of the stretch marks.

Urinary Tract Infection In Pregnancy – Some Effective Home Remedies

Urinary tract infection is a universal problem faced by men as well as women.? However, it affects women more than men. Pregnant women are even more susceptible to urinary tract infections (UTI) due to a number of conducive factors. The most common factor leading to UTI in pregnancy is the fact that pregnant women undergo a number of physical changes that push their bladder closer to the opening if the vagina.

This makes way for easy entry of bacteria into a pregnant woman’s bladder. Pregnant women also find it difficult to expel urine as effectively as they used to before.? This results in urine getting accumulated in the bladder and leading to bacterial infection. Gestational diabetes is another factor that leads to UTI in pregnant women. The presence of excess sugar in the body helps in the multiplication of bacteria inside the bladder of a pregnant woman.

While UTI in itself is not a threatening infection, when pregnant, there are many risk factors associated with it. Urinary tract infection during pregnancy can lead to kidney infection if left untreated and can also result in high blood pressure and premature labour. If you suspect a UTI during pregnancy, it is very important to visit the doctor and undergo medical treatment to prevent complications. Urinary tract infection normally presents itself with a burning sensation while urinating, pain in the lower abdominal area and frequent and low amounts of urine.

Sever cases may present itself with fever, chills and blood in urine. Urine would turn very cloudy and would have a foul smell to it when you have urinary tract infection. The good news is that there are many home remedies for preventing as well as treating urinary tract infections. During pregnancy, preventing is more important than treating and hence one must strive to do what one can in order to prevent urinary tract infections.

Cranberry juice is known to be one of the best natural treatment methods for urinary tract infections. Since this is a purely natural juice, pregnant women can take it without having to worry about side effects and risks. Cranberry juice can prevent as well as retract urinary tract infections to a great extent. For infections, intake of seven ounces of pure cranberry juice is sufficient for complete cure.

Cranberry juice must be consumed without any sweetening agents. Cocktails too are not recommended as they reduce the amount of cranberry juice required for recovery. It is a good practice to drink a glass of cranberry juice every day to avoid urinary tract infections.

Consumption of vitamin C will immediately reduce the symptoms associated with urinary tract infection. Vitamin C increases the acidity of the urine. Bacteria associated with urinary infection cannot thrive well in acidic conditions and hence one gets immediate relief and cure with Vitamin C. Talk to the doctor about the adequate amount of vitamin C that can be consumed safely during pregnancy. You may add plenty of foods that are rich in vitamin C in order to combat urinary tract infections during pregnancy.

Pregnancy is the time when you need to keep a toxin free body to ensure the health and well being of your foetus. For this drinking plenty of water is a must. Drinking water will also keep urinary tract infections at bay. If you have fallen prey to urinary tract infections, make sure that you drink 3-4 litres of water to flush out the bacteria that have planted themselves inside the bladder. Drinking water will also prevent the multiplication of bacteria in the bladder.

Most pregnant women get urinary tract infection as they try to control the urge to urinate. This will result in build up of bacteria in the bladder and resultant UTI. Pregnant women especially should not suppress the urge to urinate as their body is a great breeding ground for bacteria due to the hormonal changes associated with pregnancy. You must respond to every urge to urinate in order to keep the bladder empty and prevent bacteria from multiplying.

Personal hygiene is advisable at all times. During pregnancy it takes on a whole new meaning. You are responsible for your life as well as the life of the baby. While bathing, it is a good practice to avoid bath tubs as they allow easy passage of bacteria into the bladder through the water that is filled inside the tub. Showers are better and hygienic during the pregnant months.

Pregnant women must also avoid using public toilets which are again treasure houses of all kinds of bacteria. Always ensure that you clean your genitals after urination. Keep them dry and clean to prevent bacterial infections of all kinds. It is also important to wipe your genitals from the front to the back to prevent bacteria from the anal region from spreading into the perineum and subsequently into the vagina and urinary bladder.

During pregnancy, women feel increasingly hot that would lead them to sweat more than usual. So wearing cotton clothes that can absorb the sweat well is a must in order to prevent infections. Loose fitting clothes will ensure good air circulation that will keep your genital areas free from bacterial and fungal infections.

In spite of all precautions, you could still be prone to urinary tract infections. If the infection persists after basic home remedies have been administered, you must immediately consult the doctor for advice. There are many safe antibiotics that can be taken during pregnancy. Your doctor may prescribe a course depending on the severity of the infection.

Urine culture and blood test would also be conducted to rule out kidney infections and to check the response towards various antibiotic medicines. Urinary tract infection during pregnancy is a very common occurrence. There is no need to stress yourselves out if you have contracted the infection. With a little care and effort, things can very well be set right and brought under control.

Ways To Correct Sagging Breasts After Pregnancy

While we welcome motherhood with open arms, there are many bodily changes accompanied by motherhood that we would rather did not exist! Sagging breasts are a problem many new mothers face. It mars their confidence and leads to depression and low self esteem.

Pregnancy brings about a lot of changes in the body. While some are permanent, others are temporary and can be dealt with using correct practices. Many mothers believe that sagging of breasts is a result of breastfeeding the baby. This belief has resulted in many young and body conscious mothers preventing their babies from suckling at their breasts. The truth however, is far from reality.

Breastfeeding is a natural process that nature has bestowed upon women. It in fact helps mothers to shed the extra kilos that they have gained during pregnancy faster and helps them get back in perfect form sooner. Breastfeeding also helps mothers to retain the shape of their breasts as opposed to popular belief.

Once you start weaning off, most breast tissues regain their previous form, though slight sagging is inevitable and cannot be avoided. However, there are ways by which we can prevent extreme sagging of breasts by following these safe practices at home. It is advised never to stop breast feeding for the benefit of the mother as well as the baby. Women who breast feed their babies are known to have reduced instances of breast cancer than women who do otherwise. Not to mention the abundant benefits the baby derives from mother’s milk!

While you are breastfeeding, your breasts remain swollen and big. As you wean, it starts to shrink due to the reduction of milk produced in the ducts. This is the time when your breasts could sag most. To combat sagging while weaning off, it is important to keep your breasts well nourished while you breastfeed.

Nourishing will ensure that the breasts do not sag too much during the weaning process. The skin must have regained some of its elasticity while you massage the cream or oil onto the skin. You can use, cocoa butter, shea butter or olive oil for massaging. Vitamin E is also good for skin regeneration and scarring. Dab on some olive oil or other non sticky oil after a bath every day.

Massaging your breast every day will improve the blood circulation and keep them soft and supple. Every day, you can spend 15-20 minutes massaging using a good natural or homemade cream. Chemical varieties may not be a good option as you are breastfeeding. Massaging will prevent the skin from shrinking and dimpling while you are weaning. They will also minimise sagging. While you massage, make sure to use upward strokes rather than downward strokes. This will strengthen the ligaments and help them to hold the breasts firmly without falling for gravity.

Start you massage from under the breasts and move to the side, upwards. Again starting from under the breast, you can move upwards till the nipple area. Start from above the nipple and move upwards, lifting the breast tissues as you massage. Again starting from the middle, circling the areole with both your thumbs and index fingers (join the thumb and index fingers to form a diamond shape for this massage), you can radiate outwards pressing the breast backwards in all directions as you massage. Repeat these massages several times every day for great results.

Exercises do not have a direct impact on lifting or preventing sagging of breasts. But chest or pectoral muscle exercises can improve the overall look of your breasts. During exercise, the pectoral and chest muscles are strengthened. This will have an impact on the breast tissues as well making them look firmer and more taut. The exercises you can try are push ups and dumbbell exercises involving the chest like a chest press. If floor push ups are difficult to attain for you, you may try doing push ups against the wall by standing.

There are easy to do exercises that are done for strengthening the ligaments of your breasts. These exercises are greatly beneficial for preventing breast sagging to a great extent. Cup the underside of your breasts using your palms. Lift them up to a position where they originally were when they were taut and perky. Hold them in that position for 20 seconds and remove your hands. This is for strengthening the ligaments underneath the breasts so that they support the breasts without sagging.

Proper feeding positions can minimise sagging to a certain extent. Most mothers position their babies in such a way that they suck by pulling the nipple downwards. This will definitely lead to sagging. While breastfeeding, you can keep a high pillow to position the baby’s mouth in level with your nipple. This will enable the baby to suck outwards, preventing sagging. You could also try placing your palm under the breast and holding it up for the baby while feeding. This gives the right support for the breasts while you breastfeed.

Lactating breasts are prone to sagging and hence require adequate support at all times. Ensure that you get the right cup size while you choose bras. They must also offer good band or wiring support underneath to prevent sagging. The straps too can be wider to effectively hold the weight of your breasts without causing pain on your shoulders and breasts.

However, a word of caution here. Lactating breasts should not be constricted in such a way that the milk ducts get clogged due to lack of blood circulation. It is important to have enough looseness around the breasts to prevent occurrences of Mastitis and abscess formations.

Following these practices during breastfeeding and afterwards will surely minimize sagging greatly, leaving you with no great cause for worry. Breast feeding and motherhood are times for enjoyment. Being weighed down by other thoughts will take the charm and exhilaration away from mothers. Ensure that you have a wonderful bonding time with your baby through breastfeeding…

Prevent Pregnancy Stretch Marks With These Simple Tips

Motherhood is the time when all women experience abundant joy. The thrill of being a new mother and the care and concern offered by near and dear ones are all tremendously satisfying. ?But there are other aspects of motherhood that can be extremely distressing to many women.

One of the most important causes for heartache is the permanent scar of stretch marks which you have to live with all your life.?More than 90 percent of pregnant women get stretch marks during pregnancy. This is due to the rapid weight gain, especially around the waist, hip and the breast area leaving them with unsightly marks that never completely fade away. This is because stretch marks cause permanent damage to the middle layer of skin called dermis.

Many factors like genetic disposition, weight gain, hormone imbalances and vitamin deficiency can cause stretch marks. Once you get stretch marks, no amount of creams or treatments can completely remove them. So the best way to keep away from them is to do everything possible to prevent their occurrence. Pregnancy is the time when most women get stretch marks on their body.

A little care at home can prevent scars on the skin and leave you with a glowing post pregnancy skin, devoid of any wear and tear.? You need not go hunting for expensive creams and concoctions for controlling stretch marks during pregnancy. Care for the skin must start well before the second trimester as this is the time when stretch marks start to appear.

Skin needs abundant moisture to prevent stretch marks during pregnancy, especially dry skin. The elastin and collagen in dry skin tend to break faster than skin that is well nourished and moisturised. Skin must be moisturised externally and at the same time a pregnant woman must ensure that she take plenty of liquids to hydrate the skin from within. No amounts of nourishment from outside will help if you avoid drinking water and other liquids.

For external moisturising, choosing a good nourishing cream that suits your skin is essential. This can be easily made at home. The most commonly used creams and oils and the ones having the best nourishing and moisturising properties are cocoa butter, shea butter, vitamin E oil, olive oil, almond oil and lavender oil. Any of these naturally occurring substances can be used for massaging the areas that could be prone to stretch marks. Massaging stimulates collagen production and maintains elasticity.

Massaging can be started from the beginning of the third month of pregnancy. You can mix the oils with the creams for better results. Aloe vera and olive oil can be mixed to form a great nourishing cream that soothes the skin and give it elasticity and moisture and hence preventing the occurrence of stretch marks. Similarly, cocoa butter, wheat germ and Vitamin E can be mixed to form another great massage cream. Make sure you massage the areas twice every day for maximum protection, whatever oil or cream you use.

Stretch marks can be caused due to the deficiency of essential, vitamins, proteins and minerals in the body. So a healthy diet rich in vitamin E, A, C and antioxidants help to keep the skin well nourished internally. You can also add foods that are rich in omega three fatty acids for a healthy skin tone. Fresh fruits, green leafy vegetables, fish, eggs, cereals etc. must be added in your daily diet. These foods will provide the skin with enough nourishment to combat loss of elasticity.

Most women gain weight uncontrollably during their pregnancy. Sudden weight gain is one of the reasons for development of stretch marks. You must eat a balanced diet and at the same time keep control of your weight during pregnancy. Many women follow the wrong belief that they must eat for two people while they advance in pregnancy. This is a wrong and baseless assumption. Ensuring that you eat a balanced diet and not eat uncontrollably will help you keep your weight under check.

Weight gained during pregnancy could be difficult to shed. Preventing drastic weight gain will not only help you prevent the occurrence of stretch marks, but also help you to get back in shape soon after you start weaning. Women only need to gain an extra 25-35 pounds if you are in the normal weigh category.? For obese women, the weight gain must be much less.

Exercise during pregnancy has many benefits. They help in keeping your weight under control, prevent the occurrence and reduction of stretch marks and also help in making the labour and delivery a smooth and uncomplicated process. Skin retains it elasticity while you exercise. During exercise, the natural skin oils are secreted by the sebaceous glands, preventing dryness and providing abundant moisture and strength to prevent tearing of skin due to excessive stretching.

Toning exercises can be done with the advice of a registered practitioner during pregnancy. Toning is good for people who already have stretch marks as they help in tightening the skin to its normal state. Yoga is also a good alternative as it has many light exercises for pregnant women. Whatever exercise you do, make sure you do not over exert or stretch your abdominal, pelvic and back muscles too much.

While all these tips will surely help you in preventing stretch marks, they may not be sure cut ways to prevent stretch marks as individual result vary. If you are genetically pre disposed to stretch marks, you could still be susceptible to getting them in spite of all the precautions.

But the intensity would be much less as you have taken adequate care.?However, if you have still have stretch marks and would like to remove them permanently, you could try laser treatments, microdermabrasion and other invasive and non- invasive stretch mark removal techniques after consulting a skin care specialist for the same.

Maternity Clothes-Wardrobe Essentials For A Comfortable Pregnancy

Pregnancy is the time when women keep growing along with your belly. Therefore, fitting clothes or remaining stylish all throughout the pregnancy is a distant dream for many.

Most women are forced to buy whatever is available on the shelves without checking if it suits them or not. With so many maternity brands to choose from, it is an utter shame to choose clothes that are ill fitting and not your style.

Maternity clothes that you choose must offer great comfort and convenience along with elasticity and fit. There are certain maternity clothes that are very essential during the months of pregnancy.

These clothes will ensure that you sail through the crucial months without spending much from your pocket. A few judicious choices will keep you well stacked and free from frequent visits to the shops.

Jeans have become a part of every woman’s wardrobe and hence you cannot completely abolish them during the maternity months. Perfect maternity jeans with wide elastic bands are available in all sizes and styles to indulge your fancy. The bands can be worn over your belly button or under them, which is more comfortable if you have a big stomach.

If you are looking at an economic solution to your jean needs, a demi panel would be the best solution. Demi panels can be worn from end of your first trimester to the ninth month without any alteration. They are also good for use a few months after your delivery when you would still have a paunch to take care of. Women who have had a C section would benefit the most from demi panels after delivery. The fabric is soft and would not hurt or constrict the wound which is at the healing phase.

Blazers are very good in acting as quick cover ups. So if your shirt is a little too tight around your belly or your bust line, throw a blazer over you to feel comfortable and very professional.

You can keep a variety of jackets with varying lengths to suit many occasions. It is also not a bad idea to carry a few light weight jackets that can go along with all your dresses, formal or casual. Long double buttoned blazers are good for pregnant women as they help keeping the growing belly camouflaged enough to avoid looking awkward.

You may also take a look at open blazers that give ample space for growing tummies. When you buy blazers, you can look for neutral shades that can go well with your basic pair of black trousers and also with your jeans for a casual Friday in the office. They are also helpful as casual outdoor wear when you find that none of your old jackets fit you anymore.

There are many reasons that make women sing praises of empire waistlines, especially during pregnancy. Empire waists mostly come with flares that are concentrated more towards the front, allowing lot of room for big bellies. There are a variety of things you can do with an empire waist to shift the attention from the waistline and hip. A wide belt at the empire line with elaborate bead work or embroidery will add interest to your dress and keep your bulging areas low key.

Another reason to choose empire waists is that they can be used for a long time, well into your ninth month, if they have enough fabric around the waist. Empire waists can be retained even after your pregnancy as they are quite popular among plus sizes and ordinary women. The greatest attraction of an empire line is that they bring out the best pregnant figure out for all to admire. Empire dresses are available in a variety of styles and hence you will not have much difficulty choosing the one that fits your requirement.

Button front shirts are a great necessity while your tummy is growing. Maternity shirts with front buttons come with extra room to accommodate your belly. They could have extra folds in the front panels to have ease of movement while you wear them. Button front shirts go well with blazers while you are in the office for a professional meeting. They can be worn on its own during hotter months and when you are on a casual day out.

You may choose basic colours like whites and neutral shades for shirts. They can also be worn unbuttoned if you wear a T- shirt underneath. What more, these shirts come of use during your breast feeding days and can be worn even after that with a few alterations at the side seam.

V- Neck sweaters are easy to wear as there are no buttons or hooks to take care of. They offer a lot of room for expansion and can be worn until your date of delivery. The V neck too is the perfect neckline to flatter your pregnant body. They make you look leaner and taller. V neck T shirts too are great additions to your maternity wardrobe as they expand well and look good with blazers and jackets. These pieces of garments can be worn post delivery and after that as they have good elasticity to mould according to the body shape.

The goodness of wrap dresses and skirts need not be emphasized as most of us know that it will come of help during maternity days and also for plus sizes in general. Stick to wrap styles if you have fluctuating weight or if you are growing faster than you anticipated. Wrap dresses can accommodate quite a lot of weight and will never go out of style whether you are in the maternity category or otherwise. Invest in some good styles which you can wear for a number of occasions.

When you buy a skirt as maternity wear, the elastic bands offer great ease and comfort. Gypsy skirts with bold prints are great for summer and casual wear while you are pregnant. The wide flare around gypsy skirt could be a little more toned down to suit your height and waist. They can be worn with fitted tops and V necks T-shirts sweaters.

Many shops now offer adjustable elastic bands which can be adjusted with buttons as your grow or lose weight.? Elastic waists need not be thrown away after your maternity days. They can very well be used even after as they are suit all body types unless you are too short and stout. You may even preserve them for your future maternity days. Pregnancy is a wonderful feeling. Make sure you choose clothes that compliment your figure and offer great comfort.

Breast milk is a tailor made for your growing baby, with all the nutrients which the baby needs in exact amount. It also contains antibodies, which will help protect the child against illness and infection, and more over it helps the child against respiratory problems and allergy related conditions, such as eczema and asthma.

To begin with, your breast will produce colostrums, a clear golden yellow fluid which starts your babies’ digestive system working .After few days your milk will come in. You can feed your baby sitting or lying down. You can use pillows or cushions to support your arms and back. You and your baby should be tummy to tummy, with his nose opposite your nipples and his head and body in line with each other.

Helping your baby latch on to your breast correctly is the key to successful breast feeding. Once your baby has taken the position he will start sucking the nipples which will stimulate you to release a hormone called oxytocin which causes the milk glands in your breasts to release milk. When this happens you will hear your baby swalloing.

You may also feel a tingling sensation, contraction of your uterus, or you may leak milk from the opposite breast. Your baby may fall asleep once he is full and naturally come off your breast. Otherwise you can just slide your finger into the corner of her mouth to break the suction. As you get the hang of breastfeeding you will realize that you can do it any time anywhere.

When breast feeding is going well you feel like a proudest mother on earth. Remember that both mother and child are learning a new skill and perfecting the art of breastfeeding can take time and patience. In the beginning after the birth you may feel tired and emotional. You may feel that all you do is breast feeding as the baby demands the food every couple of hours. But, as the time passes you get use to it.

9 Easy Ways To Remain Fit During Pregnancy

Exercising During PregnancyMany women feel that on becoming pregnant they should give up on exercising completely. The truth is that women who exercise during pregnancy are fit and their bodies are better prepared to deal with labor at the end of the nine months.

Exercising during pregnancy also helps women regain their pre-pregnancy weight faster. However, there are exercises like cycling and long distance running which should be avoided during pregnancy. Therefore, it is important that you change your exercises as the pregnancy progresses.

While exercising during pregnancy is healthy, it is also important that you exercise carefully. Leading an active lifestyle will ensure you a fit and healthy pregnancy but you must be careful on where to draw the line when it comes to exercising while being pregnant. You should not overexert yourself and end up becoming tired and sick.

Carrying a baby as it is takes toll on the body and you definitely don’t want to add anything else on to it. Many women see this as an excuse to not exercise at all during pregnancy. These women find it harder to shed baby weight post pregnancy than women who do light to moderate exercises throughout the nine months.

Before you begin any exercise routine it is important t check with your doctor whether you are physically fit to do so. Some women are advised complete bed rest during their pregnancy. Such women should not even attempt light exercises like walking as it can cause harm to fetus and the pregnancy can end up in miscarriage. Your doctor is your best guide and it is wise to seek his/her opinion when it comes to physical activity during pregnancy.

During your first trimester go for fifteen minutes walk in the morning and ten minutes walk in the evening every day without fail. Increase the duration of the walks to twenty minutes in the morning and fifteen minutes in the evening during second trimester.

With the start of the third and last trimester of your pregnancy make it a conscious effort to walk for ten to fifteen minutes after every hour. This will keep you active and make labor less stressful. Unless you have been advised complete bed rest by your doctor don’t lead an inactive life or your pregnancy will be unhealthy and there will be increased chances of acquiring gestational diabetes.

Many people will recommend that you now have to eat for two. Don’t take it literally. Pregnant women don’t have to overstuff themselves to keep the fetus healthy. Pregnancy should also not be seen as a chance of eating calorie-rich and unhealthy food. Eat foods rich in vitamins, proteins, nutrients and carbohydrates. Don’t indulge too much in your pregnancy cravings unless they are of the healthy types. Stick to a healthy diet of fresh fruits, vegetables and grains. Instead of eating three heavy meals eat six small meals through the day. This will keep your cravings under check.

Drink plenty of water. Increase your intake of water to 10-12 glasses each day. This will keep the digestive system working smoothly as many women complain of constipation during pregnancy. Drinking water will also help you avoid water retention which is one main cause of swelling of hands and feet.

Crunches can be performed throughout the first trimester. However, once your belly starts expanding you will find it difficult to perform crunches. Take up other exercises that involve squatting. Squatting will help you during labor as well making your delivery smooth. Swimming is another way of remaining fit throughout the nine months of pregnancy. It is a low-impact cardio-vascular exercise and hence will not tire you out easily.

The classes are a great way of knowing everything about pregnancy right from pregnancy related exercises, pregnancy diet and what to expect during labor and how to prepare for delivery. Besides, the classes are also a good way of getting to meet other pregnant women and exchange notes.

It is necessary that you do not lead a physically inactive pregnancy. This can be harmful for both the mother and the unborn child. You doctor will let you know when he/she feels that you are pushing yourself too hard and that your body needs to rest.

Studies have also shown that children born to mothers who do not live healthy during pregnancy often end up becoming obese during their childhood and adult years. How To Healthily Lose Weight After Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a very beautiful time in a woman’s life and she takes every precaution she has to in order to make sure that her baby is healthy and completely safe inside her.

After the baby is born the woman has to be very careful, at least for the first few months. This is because you have to start getting back in to your pre-pregnancy shape; however at the same time you have to insure you do not get lazy or compromise the quality of your breast milk. This is because the breast milk is the child’s only source of nourishment.

A lot of people say a lot of different. In the sense that everyone will tell you to eat healthy, as such you will be advised a variety of food products. Some of which you may like, some of which you may not want to even taste. However the most important thing is how many calories you are putting down your tummy. That is all that it comes down to.

This is because calories are the only things that can only be controlled by what you are eating. Vitamins, minerals and the likes can always be consumed through supplements. To give the readers a very, very short version, the best way to lose pregnancy weight healthily is to very gradually decrease the number of calories you are consuming; however still, in detail, there are a lot more things to consider.

In addition to the intake of calories that you must watch while trying to healthily lose pregnancy weight, there are also a lot of other things to consider as it is a very complex metabolic system. What you eat is of great importance for the well being of your body. As such, try to eat healthy foods only. These foods should be rich in protein, fiber and vitamins. Keep your intake of complex carbohydrates to a minimum. Although when the urge does flare, you can occasionally pamper yourself to a glass or so of a soft drink, but in moderation.

Being a new mother can be very tiring as the baby demands a lot of time. However you must remember that it is vital for you to get your share of exercise to keep your body fit. As such whenever the father or a relative is looking over the baby, make sure you get at least 30 minutes of exercise before jumping on to the bed for some beauty sleep.

It is very helpful if your spouse or the significant other can be helpful to you with the house chores and taking care of the shopping. This way you can find a decent amount of time for you to exercise and shape up your body again.

But why is exercising so important? Exercising is especially important to lose pregnancy weight because it helps keep the fat in moderation rather than accumulation. In addition to that it helps burn a lot of calories. As well as that it will help your stay active, which is very important, as your baby will demand it.

It really should not surprise you that eating healthy is the best way to lose weight. If your diet can be somewhat close to the one described below then you will have no problem at all in losing your pregnancy weight:

Lean meat, fruits, vegetables and healthy fats such as olive oil and nuts. Not only is this kind of a diet very beneficial for the body it also allows you to stay away from having to take supplements to fulfill your body’s nourishment. The biggest problem related to consuming healthy food is the lack of time, in today’s life. This is simply because eating junk and oily foods is much faster than eating healthy, fully cooked food.

But it is time that you make some time for the sake of your health and that of your child’s. Eating raw vegetables, fruits, and nuts in the form of salads or snacks is a very good idea because it will help nourish your body and reduce the fat content. If you are really pressed for time then cook a little in advance and store your daily portion of food in Tupperware containers. Having this with a protein shake will be much more beneficial for your health than junk food.

The best thing for you to do is to put your baby in the stroller and go for a walk. A walk is very important for losing weight. This is because by walking your body burns a lot of energy and in doing so it uses a lot of enzymes that help break down and use the fat for energy. In addition to that walking keeps you active. If there is a park with green grass around your home, then walking bare feet in the grass can be a very good choice as it will help you relax a great deal.

The most important thing for you is to keep your enzyme levels high. This way your fat will be converted to fuel more efficiently. For this you cannot afford to be lethargic. You must walk daily, even if it only for thirty minutes or so.

One of the most effective ways of losing pregnancy weight, because breastfeeding actually helps burn around 300 calories per feeding. As such there is no need for you to go on a crazy diet. You need to maintain a high quality of your breast milk for proper nourishment of your child. Breastfeeding helps burn a lot of fat and convert into energy for the feedings.

You must remember that you cannot compromise on your baby’s health. As such take your time in losing the pregnancy weight because there is no rush. With a healthy and nutritious diet, regular exercise and walk, and breastfeeding you will lose your pregnancy weight in no time.

EPT Pregnancy Test – A Best Choice

The EPT is an Early Pregnancy Test which is the latest test to ascertain your pregnancy status very early, as it functions to determine the presence of HCG hormone in your urine, which is released after the egg is fertilized and the embryo is implanted. But some pregnant ladies may not produce sufficient amount of HCG hormones in their urine in the first couple of days after their missed period.

The HCG level is highest in the morning for the pregnancy test to be more accurate. The best effect is during the mid flow of your urine on the test stick. It is important to confirm your pregnancy as early as possible to kick start your pre-natal care which benefits you and your baby.

This test is proven to have a 99% accuracy which no other home pregnancy test will be able to compete with for an early diagnosis. It is easy to use. You can follow the instructions listed on the package directly. You can unwrap the foil packaging for the EPT Pregnancy test stick and take off a purple cap to see an absorbent tip. Let the absorbent tip be in the urine flow as you hold the test stick in a downward position.

You only need 5 seconds of urine flow to wet the absorbent tip. Alternatively, you can urinate into a small container and dip in the absorbent tip for 20 seconds. Then put your test stick flat with its windows facing upwards for 2 minutes. Do not wait too long to read the results. There should be some light blue lines being displayed on the windows.

If you are pregnant, you will see a (+) blue sign in the round window, else, you will see a (-) blue sign on the square window. You can try this urine test again in a week’s time. If it is still negative, do consult your doctor to check on your health.

If you are confirmed pregnant, you should also consult your doctor as soon as possible for some pre-natal care which is crucial for you and your fetus. Note that if you see no blue lines in the window, then the test is considered invalid. Call the manufacturer’s number to report the product defect.

But there may be other factors that may affect the EPT result beside defectiveness. There are some drugs that have HCG such as Humegon, Profasi, Pregnyl, APL and Pergonal, which will affect the reading of the EPT. Sometimes, health conditions like the presence of ovarian cysts, possible ectopic pregnancy and other medical conditions may upset the EPT result. You should consult your doctor on such ambiguity.

Sometimes the EPT may give false positive result if you have just given birth in nine weeks or have had a recent miscarriage. The EPT detects the presence of HCG still existing in your body from your last pregnancy. Your doctor will interpret your results more accurately. But the EPT should not be affected by alcohol, pain killers, birth control pills, antibiotics or hormone treatments with clomiphene citrate (Serophen or Clomid).

Although the EPT may not be as old a method as the Ovulation System which calculates the delivery date of your baby, the Early Pregnancy Test has been a proven tool on its accuracy to give it a growing popularity amongst pregnant women. The best time to perform the EPT is early in the morning on your first urine. Try not to have a full bladder before taking the test.

The EPT is not for internal or children’s use; hence, it should be stored out of children’s reach at all times. Today, there is a newer version of EPT that comes with a digital screen. It will read “pregnant” if you are pregnant or “not pregnant” if you are not, depending on the sufficient HCG detected.

When you know for sure that you are pregnant, you can confirm with your doctor and get started with the pre-natal care to ensure a good start for both baby and you during the next 9 months. With the EPT, all expectant mothers can start caring for their forming fetus with the best of health care which includes good and healthy diets for mother and child, vitamin supplements and avoidance of risks and harm to the growing baby.

Thus, the sooner you can confirm your pregnancy, the better you can prepare yourself to care for the new life in you by visiting your doctor or gynecologist; and this can happen today with the availability of the Early Pregnancy Test (EPT) in the market, that is so easily accessible to test if you are pregnant at the early stage of pregnancy.

The EPT is very useful as you might have irregular menstruations and you might not even be aware that you are pregnant. Some ladies with irregular hormone condition may experience no periods for as long as three months. You might be pregnant then; the first three months of pregnancy, or the first trimester as it is known, is a very crucial development period for the fetus.

It requires the best attention and supplements such as folic acid for its normal development. Our current diet does not contain sufficient nutrients to nourish the fertilized egg and may cause a miscarriage. Hence, it is very essential that you should check if you are pregnant every month even if you experience irregular periods.

Many ladies are not concern when their menstruation does not come for a month or two. It is better to be sure than to miss caring for your new fetus, struggling to stabilize its position and growth.
