7 Health Issues Faced By Pregnant Women And Simple Natural Remedies

Pregnancy comes with a pack full of problems. It is a joyous occasion for all expectant mothers. But there are many health issues, minor as well as major that can mar the spirits and dampen the enthusiasm of these very pregnant women.

Whilst most of these symptoms could be harmless, some cannot be neglected as they could be pointers to major catastrophes waiting to happen.?Symptoms like morning sickness, nausea, fatigue, heart burn and back pain are very common occurrences during pregnancy.

But there are other symptoms like bleeding during pregnancy, amniotic fluid leak, gestational diabetes, urinary tract infections that need medical attention and constant monitoring in order to prevent miscarriages and pre term labour.

Every mother would want a healthy baby and hence must do her best to keep herself and the baby safe and secure in the womb. Find out what is nagging you and make sure you address the problem to keep the baby perfectly healthy.

Pregnant women have an increased risk of contracting urinary tract infections. This is because the growing size of the uterus pushes the bladder down making it easy for the bacteria to enter the urinary tract. Uterus could also block the flow of urine resulting in an infection. Urinary tract infections during pregnancy have to be treated to avoid pre term labours and increase in blood pressure. Many safe antibiotics are available which can be taken with the advice of a doctor.

Symptoms include burning sensation while passing urine, lower abdominal pain, blood in urine, frequent and less urine and in severe cases, fever, chills, nausea and back pain when it spreads to the kidneys. Drinking unsweetened cranberry juice helps in clearing UTIs. You can also add lemon juice as part of your diet if you are prone to frequent UTIs.

Most women experience heart burn during the last trimester. Your baby in the womb could be exerting pressure on the stomach as she grows, pushing the stomach acids up into the esophagus, causing heart burn. Pregnant women who experience heart burn must avoid spicy, fatty and acidic food and juices which will aggravate the condition. Break down your meals into several small servings. You may also avoid lying flat on the bed. Try propping your head up to avoid the reflux action. Chewing raw almonds will help reduce or prevent heart burn during pregnancy.

Pregnant women experience leg cramps due to a variety of reasons. Calcium, vitamin and mineral deficiencies can trigger leg cramps during pregnancy. Constriction of blood vessels and nerves by the pressure exerted by the foetus is another factor that causes leg cramps in pregnant women.

All deficiencies must be addressed carefully during pregnancy. Massaging the muscles helps to relieve the pain. You may also try placing heat pads on the sore muscles. Taking hot showers too relieves the pain. If the problem persists even after trying simple remedies, there could be underlying causes which need medical attention.

Bleeding gums are mostly ignored by many pregnant women. But this is a very serious condition as you may be putting your baby’s life in jeopardy. The increased blood circulation in the body can lead to sensitive and swollen gums and bleeding. Bacteria can enter the mother’s blood stream through these bleeding gums, putting your baby at risk. Pregnancy related gingivitis occurs in many women, especially in the first and the third trimester.

Ensure that you use a gentle brush that does not hurt your sensitive gums. Frequent brushing of teeth and flossing will keep the bacteria at bay. You can massage essential oils like spearmint, peppermint, olive or almond oil onto your swollen and bleeding gums to sooth and ease the bruises. Practice saline rinses after every meal. Take a glass of warm water and add a pinch of salt into it. Rinse your moth several times using this solution to prevent swelling and increase blood circulation.

Leukorrhea or increase whitish discharge from the vagina is very common in women, pregnant or not. But during pregnancy, the secretions could increase due to the high production of estrogen in the body of pregnant women. While normal leukorrhea with a clear white discharge is not a cause for worry, there are other discharges which could be blood tinged, yellow, green or pink in colour.

These could be the results of cervical or vaginal infections like bacterial vaginosis, yeast infections, urinary tract infections, trichomonas etc. A vaginal swab can help in analysing the cause and treating the symptoms using safe antibiotic medications.

Gestational diabetes is a diabetic condition experienced during pregnancy. The condition is caused by insulin resistance that a pregnant mother experiences during her pregnancy. Gestational diabetes can be detected in the second trimester. If left untreated it can be disastrous for the mother and the baby. The baby will grow bigger than normal and develop hypoglycaemia after birth. Gestational diabetes can lead to high blood pressure in pregnant women and result in preeclampsia. They can also fall prey to type 2 diabetes afterwards.

Control the intake of sweets and sugar can be followed as general rule by all pregnant women. Ensure that you are on a well balanced diet. Natural sugars present in fruits and vegetables are a safe alternative to the sweetened products available in the market. Regular exercise helps in converting the excess glucose present in the body into energy.

Amniotic fluid is the fluid inside the womb which keeps the baby safe and floating. Low levels of amniotic fluid in a pregnant woman can cause complications and deformities in the foetus. Many women leak amniotic fluid during pregnancy. This must not be confused with regular leukorrhea.

Amniotic fluid leaks can be the cause of bacterial infections or a tear or trauma in the amniotic sac. While small tears repair on its own, bigger tears, especially during the early months, can tamper the development of the foetus and result in other complications like low amniotic fluid which is dangerous for the baby.

Amniotic fluid is thinner and flows out in excess. If you see worrying leakages, immediately consult the doctor.Pregnancy is the time when you face many such small symptoms. However, there is no need to stress yourself at every single issue. You could assess things yourself and consult a gynaecologist if you feel that things are getting out of hand.

Chapped lips are also very difficult to hide once you get them, as lips are a prominent part of your face. Women are more embarrassed by this problem than men. Many factors can cause chapping of lips. However, shift in climatic conditions is the most common cause.

Deficiencies of essential nutrients and vitamins cause chapping and drying of lips. Chapping can also be caused due to allergic reaction to the chemicals used in lipsticks and lip balms. Use of certain antibiotics can sometimes lead to cracked lips. This is however a temporary problem which will subside once the medications are stopped.

The skin of your lips is very delicate and can react to even slight abuse. Smoking is one bad habit that can cause your lips to darken and crack due to dryness caused by smoke and nicotine. Some people have the habit of licking their lips when they are dry. This will not only cause more drying but also will lead to chapping of lips. Exposure to UV rays is another cause for chapped lips.

Thankfully, chapped lips do not need any medication to be healed. A host of natural remedies are right there to help you get rid of the problem effectively and once for all.? These remedies are easy to find and hence great solutions that everyone can try at home.

Lemon juice is also a great natural remedy for chapped lips. Apply lemon juice on the lips in the morning and evening to prevent chapped lips and also to remove dead cells and sooth dry skin.

Prevention is always better than cure. Along with these home remedies, one must observe certain good practices to keep your lips always nourished. Applying sunscreen on the lips will ensure that they remain free of dryness and patchiness. You can use a soft bristled toothbrush for removing the dead cells from your lips. Apply a good natural moisturiser before sleeping.

If you have dry and chapped lips, never try to pull them out as it will only lead to tearing of lips and peeling of skin. It is also not a good habit to bite your lips or lick them. Drink plenty of fluids to prevent general dryness of the skin as well as lips. During the winter months when the lips are prone to drying, ensure that you leave them well moisturised. It is a good idea to use a humidifier to remove the atmospheric dryness.

5 Tips That Make Natural Child Birth A Possibility

Labour and birth are natural processes through which every normal woman goes through in her life. Natural child birth was very attainable and easy during ancient times and women did not need any special skills or training for a natural vaginal delivery.

The ecstasy, the joy and the satisfaction that a woman gets through enduring labour pain and the resultant delivery and abundant enjoyment at the sight of her bundle of joy were things that were seen as God given… Times have changed now. Modern women neither have the endurance nor the capability to endure the pain of labour or go through the process of delivery. Most of them resort to C sections or medications that numb their senses and block their pain.

How ignorant are we about the after effects of medications, epidurals and risks associated with C sections! Caesarean sections have many risk factors associated with it. The chances of wound getting infected or internal organs getting injured are more during caesarean sections. Pain control injections like an epidural can cause numbness and pain which could last for several months. Babies who are delivered through C sections tend to develop breathing and respiratory syndromes immediately after delivery or at a later stage.

If you are expecting your first child and would like a natural child birth, it is important to prepare yourself for the wonderful process right from the time you know you are pregnant. Educating yourself adequately and practising certain simple techniques will prepare you for the child birth process and help you attain a natural child birth confidently.

While natural child birth can also depend on your overall health and the shape of your body, preparing yourself for a natural birth is in no way going to affect your health. Rather it would help you tremendously in attaining a speedy delivery.

A pregnant woman must never be sedentary. The more you restrict movement, the greater difficulties you will have all throughout your pregnancy and during child birth. Exercise and yoga can help a young woman in preparing her mind and body for labour and birth. Yogic poses help in practicing relaxation techniques and in keeping the muscles and bones flexible for labour. Meditation is a good way to relax. Yoga during pregnancy must be done only under supervision. Poses that can exert pressure on the abdomen and back must be avoided during pregnancy. Correct yoga practices can relieve tensions around the cervix, and help the pelvic bone to expand fully.

Doing light exercises that help in flexing your pelvic and abdominal muscles and strengthening your back can be undertaken during pregnancy under proper guidance. These exercises will help in attaining a smooth labour and delivery. Exercises like kegels, calf stretch, squatting, sit ups, pelvic tilts, upper back stretch etc. are good exercises that you can practice during pregnancy to ease your labour.

Breathing techniques are employed for relaxation and pain management during labour. Pregnant women must practice deep breathing techniques several months before the labour process to be able to employ it successfully. Deep breathing can help you to control episodes of morning sickness and relieve stress and tension associated with early pregnancy. So starting them as early as possible is advisable for natural birth.

Sit comfortably and inhale deeply through your nose, allowing your stomach to move outward to the maximum. Hold for as much time as you can and exhale through your mouth. When you exhale, your abdomen must move inside. You can do this several times a day. However, avoid inhaling and exhaling too deep which will result in a feeling of dizziness. During labour this breathing technique will take you a long way in relaxing your pelvic muscles and allowing the baby to float through. It will also help you manage pain.

As you advance in your pregnancy, you can undertake more techniques that will help you sail through the labour and delivery easily. A perineal massage is known to make vaginal birth easier and reduce the need for an episiotomy. It also reduces the incidence of perineal tears during the birth process. A perineal massage involves massaging the delicate skin between the vagina and the anus. This is usually done during the last weeks before you give birth.

A perineal massage helps in increasing the elasticity and suppleness of the perineal area, making it strong enough to withstand the pressure exerted when the baby slips through the vagina. Practicing correct relaxation techniques will allow you to push when necessary and avoid perineal tears.

While you are in labour, how you position yourself has a great role in deciding whether you are going to have an easy or difficult labour. So it is important to educate yourself with the various labour positions you can adopt. Practicing the techniques during the last week of your labour will give you a feel of how you can handle the actual labour with ease.

If you are not on any medicate or on drip, walking or moving around will help in controlling the pain and contractions. Even while you are in bed, you can adopt various positions that are comfortable. During the second stage of labour when you have to push, an upright position or squatting position is the best for your pelvic bone to open. However it is entirely up to you to decide which position is more comfortable for you.

Hydrotherapy is fast becoming a preferred method of labour. Hydrotherapy uses water in ease the pain and relax the muscles and be in control of the situation. For this the pregnant women can use tubs filled with water that is same as the body temperature or cooler. This will keep the temperature of her body and the baby’s temperature and heart beats under control. However this is an option only for healthy pregnant women who do not have any complications that require constant monitoring.

Acupuncture is another technique used for relieving pain during the natural birth process. It uses needles which are inserted in strategic points in the body for relieving pain. If you adopt this method, make sure you have a trained acupuncturist at your disposal. Natural child birth is a gift and you must do everything possible to experience it.
