When is the Right Time to do Toilet Training for Baby?

Training your baby to urinate or defecate in the toilet can be started at the age of 18 to 24 months. This starting age is different though in every kids depending to their each readiness. Extra patience is also needed in training your kids to get used to urinate or defecate in the toilet. The approximate time needed for them is between 3 to 6 months to get automatically and used to urinate in the toilet. It means that during those 3 to 6 months parents need to spare their time, energy and patience in that Toilet Training.

Further, though your kids have already been able to urinate in the toilet, they have not necessarily been free from bedwetting. What happens often is that at noon the kids pee in the toilet, but when asleep at night they wet their bed. A period of 6 to 12 months is needed for kids to ‘control’ themselves to not wet their bed while asleep at night. Once again, patience from the parents is really needed here.

THE SIGNS FOR READINESS

To force your baby who is unready to pee in the toilet is useless. A child is said ready when she says that she feels uncomfortable to use diaper or when she can differ the urge for urinating and defecating. Moreover, if she can tell a simple sentence like “Mommy, I want to pee.”, or she can manage to put on her underpants by her own or interested in bathroom activities, then Toilet Training seems ready to start. Besides, notice whether during her playtime she quits sometimes to hold her diaper. She may be done this because she feels uncomfortable using diaper, or it is because she is already able to feel that the diaper is wet and damp with her pee.

Kids who are able to put down their own pants or diapers and their distance of urinating is more than 2 hours also show their readiness in toilet training. To boys, it usually starts slower and with longer process if compared to girls.

Getting your kids ready for Toilet Training is done in stages.

Wait for their readiness. Watch closely their development. When they show signs for readiness, then that is the time to teach them pee in the toilet. Teaching your kids early without watching their readiness will only be useless and in fact would take longer time.Watch the time. Usually kids will feel the urge to urinate after drinking much water. Take her to pee in the toilet approximately half an hour after drinking. This will also train them to automatically pee on their own in the toilet every time they want to.Accompany them. While your kid is sitting in the toilet or trying to pee in the bathroom, go with them and ask them to talk about something interesting. This will make them ‘forget’ and become more relax.Give support and compliment. Every time she succeeds to get used herself peeing in the bathroom, give them compliment as much as you can. Compliment like, “What a smart girl, you can pee in the toilet on your own.” And give her a kiss after she manages to do it. She will understand that it is a good thing and will make her mom happy. You can also clap your hands every time she finishes peeing in the bathroom. The kids’ success at getting themselves used to urinate in the toilet indeed depends to their personal motivation. As parents, besides supporting and training, you need also to prepare extra patience. Hence, never get tired to rejection or disappointment if your kid still chooses to pee in her pants than in toilet. Be patient.

Which kind of potty is it?

Before entering to the stage of toilet, you can start with teaching your child to pee in his little potty. There are 2 kinds of potty usually used:

Separate potty. It usually is shaped like a bowl with its sitting design patterned based on the kids’ body curve.Potty that is placed above the adult toilet that you kid can directly get used to defecate in the bathroom.

Tips on Creating a Fun Toilet Training

Make the habit to pee in the toilet as a fun thing to do. Some of these ideas may become a choice:

Prepare a cardboard posted on her bedroom wall and stickers with funny pictures. Ask her to paste one sticker every time she pees in the toilet. For every 5 stickers posted, give her a reward, like her favorite biscuits for example.Play with flush. Let your kid play with the flush. This will make her interested to pee in the toilet since she wants to right away push the flush button.‘Shooting Target’. For boys, give him a target he can shoot, for example rock ice made of colored water. Put the ice rock in the toilet and let him shoot at it. This will drive him crazy to pee in the toilet.
