The Benefits of Playing Water for Toddlers

Is your child one of the toddlers who loves the water? You shall be thankful if she likes to play in water. They are usually more willing to take a bath. However, of course your happiness is much greater than simply at ‘easy to bathe’ them.

If you have not noticed, playing in water is a very good activity to build the body coordination. It is also to help children feel comfortable with their body. Generally, toddlers love ‘the sensation of lightweight and being able to float’ when in the water. Imagine, they can jump up high from the edge of the pool, and land gently in the arms of water. Such things are something they do not get when playing on the ground.

Penelope Leach, a child-care experts from the UK described in ‘Toys and Activities for Your Toddler’ that when a toddler plays with water – warm or cold, soapy or neutral, clear or colored – they will learn that this kind of liquid can be poured, splashed, spilled, can seep, and in the end it will feel cold even though it is initially warm. The water will produce bubbles when blown. If the objects inserted into it, it can float, fly and sink. Water can be transported in a container that does not leak. Water can seep if accommodated in the palm of the hand, and absorbed into the sponge and cloth. Children can also learn a variety of size and scale while playing with the water: a giant swimming pool, large tub, a medium bucket, in a small basin, in a tiny bowl, to small ice molds, and a smooth pipette.

Ensure the Safety and Health when Playing in Water

Risk we do not want to happen to kids while playing water is slipping, drifting and sinking. We also do not want a child to get sick – colds, flu, hypothermia, etc. – after the play ended. For that reasons, you need to consider some things below:

Always make sure someone is watching the kid. When your child plays in a large bucket of water, bathtub, plastic pool, or pond fish, he needs a companion. The greater the amount of water used to play, the greater the risk, and the more stringent watching is needed. In place with very large water such as swimming pool, play water rides, river, lake or beach, you must make sure that the person who oversees the child is not afraid of water and can swim.Follow the requirements / rules of security / safety. In places such as public water play pool or the water rides activity, usually there are always rules and conditions for guests who carry a child. Follow all rules and requirements, if necessary you need to do extra security. Remember, your child is a water fanatic that may be more reckless and enthusiastic than the kids his age.Minimize the risk of danger at home. Put anti-slip mat on the bathroom floor and in the bottom of the tub. Make one corner in your home as a water play area. The place was equipped with tap water and the floor surface is made rough so that your baby does not slip. Put all the tools to play the little water there, so he does not need to pace back and forth.Dry and warm the child’s body soon after finished playing. Do not leave wet clothes absorb your baby’s body heat, let alone leaving it to dry on the body. Decrease in body temperature below 35 degrees Celsius will weaken the body that makes him easy to get sick. Dry the body immediately, change clothes, and offer his favorite warm sweet drinks.

Playing water is good and fun. However, the child also needs to know another game that could be unrelated to water at all. You do not need to disturb your kid’s fun while playing water only to divert him into other activities. Simply take advantage of any ‘spare time’ of your kid (read: the times when he isn’t playing water) by offering a variety of alternative activities. Every human being requires a balance, including a child.
