How Long Should I Breastfeed My Baby

My friend had asked to me, “For how long should I breastfeed my baby?”, then I answered that she should keep breastfeeding her baby for until she is 2 years old. Is my answer true that mother should keep breastfeeding baby for 2 years? Yes, it is true. Many experts suggest that baby should keep breastfed for 2 years, at least for 1 year. Why? In the past time there were only a few doctors supporting the long-term breastfeeding openly. Also only a few mothers that had still breastfed their baby for one or two years. But later, the long-term of breastfeeding baby get much supports from health experts and also other researchers. Until 1997, The American Academy of Pediatrics stated that baby should keep breastfeeding for at least 12 months or for a time that whether baby and mother still want to do it.


World Health Organization (WHO) even suggested that breastfeeding should be kept doing until baby is 2 years old. It simply that WHO cares to people’s health, especially for people in developing country. In the recent time, the campaign of longer breastfeeding had spread to all over the world, and there are many parents get realize about the importance of breastfeeding for their baby. So, from now on you can breastfeed your baby until she is 2 years old.
