Self-Help Skill Development In Baby: 1 To 12 Months

Basically, every baby has the ability to be an own master for themselves. Their independent ability is seen when they started to have their playing game activity. By playing a game, their understanding of the environment around them will be much grown. As parents, we must always provide stimulations for our baby, so their ability to be independent will be developed in accordance with their age. In this particular post, I want to share about self-help ability in baby that should be skilled by them month by month.

By 1 Month: your baby can coordinately suck when they are breastfeeding or drinking formulae milk through a nipple artificial.

By 2 Months: baby has already been able to open their mouth when see breast or nipple artificial.

By 3 Months: show their interest or enthusiasm feeling when seeing mother’s breast (ASI) or nipple artificial.

By 4 Months: start to place their toys into their mouth.

By 5 Months: put their both hands on mother’s breast or bottle when milk-feeding.

By 6 Months: able to hold the bottle or cup by themselves when drinking milk (breast milk) or mineral water.

By 6 to 12 months:

Able to hold their bottle by themselves.Able to feed themselves by using their thumb and finger tips.Start to be able to hold the spoon and try to feed themselves.Drink water or milk from the covered cup or directly drink it from the open cup by sips via the edge of the cup.

The self-help skill in our beloved baby is possible to be trained even when they were still baby, because basically they have possessed those skills since they were born. With the right stimulations from us, as their parents, our baby will be delivered to be a person who is independent and not depend on the other people. So, let us give our baby stimulations in order to make their self-help skill develop optimally. Have fun with your little one.

Games to Stimulate Baby’s Development at Age 0-3 Months

While playing, your baby who is a mere 1-3 months old are exploring, optimizing her development and socializing with the surrounding. Here are some games that can stimulate optimum development of baby ages 0-3 months.

Playing Peek-a-boo. There are only three activities that babies of 0-3 months can do, which are seeing, observing and turning head. Since their control for neck, head, hands, body and legs is still limited; baby at this age merely depends on their senses of sight and hearing, which are still as well limited. When we play them peek-a-boo, she would turn her head and watch you and once in a while showing off her killer smile.

Playing Rattle. When you rattle a toy, baby will get amazed. Her sight will be glued to the shaking and rattling sound of the toy. Your baby would turn her head looking for the source of the sound. Observing is a fun activity for baby of 0-3 months old.

Playing Drums. Baby at this age in fact hasn’t been able to play drum. But watch while she’s suckling, she likes to pat you. Though with barely any power, she actually start learning to beat. Your baby starts to practice her hands power and ability.

Playing with Balls. Babies prefer to put rubber ball inside their mouth. It is because exploring toys by using her mouth is a basic for her development. At this oral period, any things would be put inside his mouth.

Playing with Telephone Toy. Baby at this age hasn’t necessarily understood what is telephone toy or its functions. She just can listen to the sound and the flashing lights. However, this is a very good stimulus for the development of her sight and hearing. Entering the third month, her response is getting better. It is no longer a head turn but she starts to mumble like “uuuuh… ahh.”

Hopefully by reading this article you can optimize your baby’s development through fun ways.
